Pressure mounts on government to introducestudent loans for entrepreneurs

Sir Richard Branson has stepped up his call for the government to introduce a new funding scheme for young entrepreneurs based on the student loan system.

The Virgin boss was one of five business people who signed a letter in the Telegraph urging ministers to launch a youth investment fund which, they said,would make favourable-rate loans available as start-up capital for young entrepreneurs, with the same conditions that exist for the much larger loans for...students.

The letter continued:As university applications fall and young people consider alternative career paths, it is time to review the value society places on a degree above other choices

Branson and the other signatories; Neil Berkett, CEO of Virgin Media; Abdul Khan from ratethatcurry.com; Ronke Ike, CEO of Emi & Ben and Zoe Jackson, founder of Living the Dream; claimed that because most start-ups look for finance below 10,000,the fund can be delivered without increasing the overall costs of youth investment.
